TOKONAME WARE
Tokoname ware (常滑焼, Tokoname-yaki) is one of Japan’s oldest and most famous types of pottery, originating from Tokoname City in Aichi Prefecture. It dates back to the Heian period (8th–12th century) and is particularly renowned for its unglazed, reddish-brown clay, which gives the pieces a natural, earthy appearance. The high iron content in the local clay gives Tokoname ware its distinctive color.
